THE EXHIBITIONS

The weather room
During the 18th century, meteorology was part of an astronomer’s field of research. Astronomers looked for conformity in weather patterns as well as in the movement of celestial bodies. From the Observatory, scrupulous observations were made not only of the night sky, but also of the weather.

Wargentin initiated meteorological measurements that have been continued into present times. Since 1756, temperature and precipitation have been measured at the Observatory three times daily. Today these measurements are carried out by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI).

The result of almost 250 years of temperature measurements is on display in the weather chamber. Here you can see the average temperature of the year’s warmest and coldest months from the 18th century to this day.
